Being a Leader
Being a leader means recognizing respect, credibility, integrity, and ethics as the cornerstones of effective leadership upon which we lay the foundation to bring about change. And these are personal choices, not simply what we come to know by studying about leaders and leadership. Being a leader means knowing who you are at the deepest level and influencing yourself to establish the self-direction and self-motivation needed to perform at your best.
Now that you have successfully completed the Self-Leadership leading yourself to Excellence and you will all be applying the new skills acquired I want to end by reminding you of some interesting facts about Sandhill cranes:
These large birds, who fly great distances across continents, have three remarkable qualities.
Firstly they rotate leadership. No one bird stays out in front all the time.
Secondly they choose leaders who can handle turbulence and then,
Thirdly, all during the time one bird is leading, the rest are honking their approval.
Hopefully you have learnt enough about leadership to take your place at the front of the pack – while you are making that attempt we will be honking our approval to you with great pride and inner satisfaction.
